K Dogg’s Quick Movie Review

Here’s a short review of a recent movie I’ve seen.

Movie: Beyond the Mat

Starring: Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Terry Funk, Mick Foley

Co-starring:

Rated R

Time: approx. 115 min.

A documentary that looks at the lives of various professional wrestlers. It examines the lives of some wrestlers in independent leagues who are trying to make it to the big show. This documentary also follows aging wrestlers Terry Funk and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. It was interesting these guys live away from the camara. It was at the same time sad seeing how screwed up and pathetic Jake Roberts life is with his family including his father and his daughter. Also this movie followed around Mick Foley, at the time he was doing the Mankind character. It was weird seeing the footage of Mankind receiving multiple chair shots to the head from The Rock with his (Mick's) children in attendance at the Royal Rumble event. I found this documentary very interesting, but I'm a professional wrestling fan. If you're not a wrestling fan you probably wouldn't like this documentary. Even non-wrestling fans might have a greater respect for the punishment that some of these guys go through in their day-to-day lives in the ring. I would say this movie is worth watching if you're a wrestling fan.
