K Dogg’s Quick Movie Review

Here’s a short review of a recent movie I’ve seen.

Movie: John Q.

Starring: Denzel Washington, Robert Duvall

Co-starring: James Woods, Anne Heche, Undercover Brother guy, Ray Liotta

Rated PG-13

Time: approx. 115 min.

Denzel Washington plays an average, poor, blue-collar, family man. His son collapses in the middle of a littleleague baseball game. It turns out that his heart is failing and requires a heart transplant to survive. It turns out that John's (Denzel) insurance has changed and it doesn't cover the expenses for the heart transplant surgery which are in excess of $200,000. The hospital administrators, being pure evil as all hospital administrators and doctors, are only driven by money and refuse to put John's son on the transplant list without a down payment of $75,000. After exhausting all traditional methods for trying to obtain the money, John decides to take his boy's heart surgeon and other people in the ER hostage in hopes of forcing the hospital to put his boy's name on the transplant list. What I got from this movie is that it is a commentary on the US healthcare system and that it is pushing for a nationalized healthcare system. All in all, I thought this was an entertaining movie no matter what your views are of socialized healthcare. I would say it is worth seeing.
