K Dogg’s Quick Movie Review

Here’s a short review of a recent movie I've seen.

Movie: Radio

This movie, which is based on a true story, takes place in South Carolina during the 1970s. Ed Harris plays a high school teacher/football coach who befriends a mentally-challenged young man (Cuba Gooding, Jr.). At first, Cuba's character just kind of hangs around but doesn't really say anything or do anything. Over time, the coach gets him to talk and become more involved with "helping out" the football team. The coach discovers the kid really likes music and gives him the nickname Radio. Coach and Radio run into some resistance from the townspeople and the school board. I thought this movie was pretty good. It is one of those feel good movies. This is one of those movies that makes you feel like you should go out and do some community service. I thought that the reason the coach finally gave for why he cared so much about this kid must have been made up for the movie, but from watching the special features on the dvd, they said that it was actually true. Cuba Gooding, Jr. did a very good job of bringing Radio to the big screen. I think this movie is worth renting.
