K Dogg’s Quick Movie Review

Here’s a short review of a recent movie I've seen.

Movie: Once Upon a Time in Mexico

This movie is a sequel to the movie Desperado, which apparently was a sequel to the movie El Mariachi. In this installment, Johnny Depp plays a CIA agent named Sands who recruits Antonio Banderas' character, El Mariachi, to kill a guy who is going to be involved in an overthrowing of the President. Willem Dafoe plays the leader of a Cartel that is behind the group trying to overthrow the President. This movie was ok. I wasn't too big of a fan of the first movie or this movie since I think the whole idea of a gang using guns built into guitar cases thing is stupid. I did like in the first movie that you got to see Salma Hayek naked. She's in this movie too, but only briefly and only fully clothed. I did like Johnny Depp's character. I thought he was pretty funny as he was in Pirates of the Caribbean, and in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I hadn't realized until seeing these movies that Johnny Depp was good at anything. I found it weird in this movie that they had Willem Dafoe in lots of makeup play a Mexican leader of a cartel. I don't quite understand why this is acceptable for a white guy to wear makeup and play a Hispanic guy, when then was always lots of controversy for white actors with makeup on to play African-Americans. Now don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying the black-face stuff was a good idea, I'm just trying to figure out why the Willem Dafoe thing didn't cause a stir. Anyway, stepping away from my comments on political correctness, in summary this movie wasn't that great. Johnny Depp, good. Salma Hayek not being naked, bad. I don't think I would bother checking out this movie and I would suggest renting Pirates of the Caribbean instead.
